(Tr. counts the hands) v -Good! v -Do they bark to the strangers? (Tr. points to a child and gets the response) v -Do you also take your dogs to the animal hospital? Why do you think so? v -Have you heard about rabies? v -Good! So today we are going to learn about rabies which is very much related to the dogs. v Lesson Development v Engagement - Have you ever seen dogs acting abnormal? v How would they look like? What can you see? v -So today we are going to find the details about the rabies through the case study. v -You must follow the procedures to carry out the case study as follows. v -Teacher puts up the sequenced procedures on the board for the children to go through it. v -Discussion on the questions to be asked to the health person and procedures to be followed. - Once they are clear and ready, proceed to the hospital in group.
v Note: Teacher has already visited the health in charge. v -Copies of instructions are made available for each group to be followed while they are in the field.
v Directions : -Teacher divides the class into 6 groups having 5 members each and group leader will initiate to ask the question first and the other members follow. - Each group will take a copy of their own questions to be asked in the field and thoroughly discuss before they were taken to the field. - Gr. 1-What is rabies and how is it spread? - Gr.2-what are the symptoms, if a person is bitten by a rapid dog? - Gr.3- How can we prevent dogs from spreading rabies? - Gr.4- which animals spread rabies and how? - Gr.5-find out 4 years dog bites cases who have received anti-rabies at Punakha general hospital. - Gr.6 what should we do if we are bitten by a dog? v Then each group will do the presentation on your topic for 3 minutes each v The next 5 minutes will be used for discussion on the presentation ( comments/questions by the teacher or students) v Then you will display the group works on the wall. v Case study v Once the children have thoroughly gone through the directions and understood it well, take them to the hospital for the case study. - Once we reached there, get permission from the health person. v Next 50 minutes of lesson on preparing and presentation. v “Good afternoon, children”. Did you have lunch? v How was the trip to hospital? v “Good!” v Now children as I said earlier, please sit in your own group discuss and prepare in the chart for the class presentation. - You will get 15 minutes for it. v (Here teacher will go around and help the groups to prepare for the presentation.) v Presentation: Ok children, are you done with the write ups? Then you will start the presentation. First group lead the presentation. v Comments/queries from the group or teacher should be made here to the group. v Explanation v What have you learned about the disease? v Do you think is it ok to be bitten by the dog and not going to the hospital? v Do you know how does the rabies spread? v Which animal spread the disease? v If you have pet dogs at home what should you do with them? v Extension v Have children draw a rapid dog (how does it look like?)They may discuss, but each child is responsible for justifying the idea. v Once they have finish drawing, let a member from each group show the picture to the class and explain how it would look like. v When the skin is broken by animal bite, germs can get into your body. How can you stop this? v Acknowledge their answers by confirming all the responses. v Closure v What is rabies? v -How is the disease spread? v -Which animals spread rabies? v -If you are bitten or scratched by an animal what should you do? v Good! -Children get inside in group and greet the health person and starts making queries without wasting the time on the topic.
·“Good after noon, madam”. Yes madam. ·It was interesting. · Children sit in the same group, discuss and do the write ups on the case study findings on the chart (here children decide among themselves who should be writing on the chart, be the presenter and so on.)
· Yes madam! · Group one starts the presentation followed by 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
· “It is very dangerous disease” · No madam, we must visit the hospital as soon as possible.
· Children respond to the teacher’s queries, · We must regularly immunize against rabies.
· Children in group will discuss and draw their own imagination of a rapid dog. · Children present their drawing to the class.
· Children may respond by saying washing the wound with soap and warm water etc.
· Rabies is a disease spread by dogs, monkeys, cattle and many other animals. · The disease is carried in the animal’s saliva. · We must go to the BHU/ hospitals.
